About Me
Kaitlyn Peterson (KP), is a scenic designer and artist based in New York City. She first discovered her love for art when asked to recreate a favorite photo using cloth, dye, and wax — a batik piece that earned her a National Scholastic Art and Writing Award at Carnegie Hall. Ever since, she has been drawn to the challenge of photo-realistic painting and drawing, capturing the emotions of a moment frozen in time. As a scenic designer for theatre, Kaitlyn gets to take that vision one step further — there is no greater feeling than watching a design come off the page and alive on the stage.
In 2017, Kaitlyn began working at Tate Design Group, founded by scenic designer Paul Tate dePoo III. As an associate designer, she has contributed to productions nationwide and internationally, including Take The Lead at Paper Mill Playhouse, Titanic and Dear World at New York City Center Encores!, tick, tick... Boom!, Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, and Next to Normal at The Kennedy Center's Broadway Centerstage; 42nd Street at The Ordway; Murder on the Orient Express at Asolo Repertory Theatre; Grand Hotel (Helen Hayes winner) at Signature Theatre DC; and a production of Turandot on the world's largest outdoor opera stage in Vienna, Austria for Oper im Steinbruch. She also served as part of the production design team for Usher: The Las Vegas Residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace and Usher: My Way at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
Most recently, Kaitlyn has taken on some of the most exciting projects of her career. She made her Broadway debut as associate scenic designer on The Great Gatsby, a production that has since traveled to London's West End, Seoul, Korea, and a North American national tour. She also served as associate scenic designer on The Cottage at Second Stage Theater on Broadway, directed by Jason Alexander. Her own design credits include The Wizard of Oz for City Springs Theatre Company and The Sins of Sor Juana for Fordham University.
Kaitlyn is a proud member of the United Scenic Artists Local 829 and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre & Film and her Bachelor of Arts from the School of Art, Art History & Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
